About Jootl
Jootl is a browser-based word and category game. You can play some modes, such as Solo and Friend Rooms, as a guest without an account. Features such as Ranked matches, the Daily Challenge, your profile and saved progression require an account.
This policy explains what information Jootl uses, why, and the choices you have.
Account information
You can create an account with an email address and password, or with Google Sign-In.
- Email and password: we store your email address and a username you choose. Your password is handled by our authentication service and is never visible to Jootl in readable form.
- Profile: your username, display name and, if available, a profile picture are used to show who you are in games, rooms and leaderboards.
- We use your email address to run your account: signing in, confirming your address and resetting your password.
Google Sign-In and Google user data
Signing in with Google is optional. This section explains, step by step, what Google user data Jootl receives when you choose "Continue with Google", how we use it, what we store, how it is shared and how you can control or delete it.
What we receive: after you authorise the sign-in, Google provides Jootl with basic account information only. This is limited to your name, email address, profile picture (when available) and a unique Google account identifier. Jootl requests only Google's basic sign-in permissions (openid, email and profile).
- a unique Google account identifier;
- your email address;
- your name;
- your profile picture, when available.
How we use Google user data
- Your Google account identifier and email address are used to identify and authenticate your Jootl account and let you sign in.
- Your name and profile picture are used for your Jootl player profile and may appear in game-related places such as rooms, matches, results and leaderboards.
- We use Google user data only to provide these sign-in and profile features. We do not use it for any other purpose.
What we store from Google
Of the information Google provides, Jootl stores your Google account identifier and email address with your Jootl account so you can sign in again, and stores your name and profile picture (when available) as your display name and picture on your Jootl profile. What happens to this information when you delete your Jootl account is described under "Your control over Google user data" and "Deleting your account" below.
How Google user data is shared
- We do not sell Google user data.
- We do not use Google user data for advertising or marketing.
- We do not transfer Google user data to data brokers or information resellers.
- Google user data is processed only by the service providers that operate Jootl's sign-in, database and hosting, and only as needed to provide Jootl.
- Your display name and profile picture are visible to other players where your profile appears in the game, as described above.
Google services Jootl does not access
Jootl does not request access to your Gmail, Google Drive, Contacts, Calendar or any other Google service. It cannot read, send or change anything in your Google account.
Your control over Google user data
When you delete your Jootl account from your Profile page, the link to your Google account is removed, your email address is removed from the account, and your profile name and profile picture are removed, as described in "Deleting your account" below.
You can also remove Jootl's access from your Google Account's security or third-party connections settings. Doing so stops future sign-ins with Google but does not by itself delete information already stored in your Jootl account; to remove that, delete your Jootl account.
Information stored in your browser
Jootl saves a small amount of information in your browser's local storage so the game works properly. This is not used for advertising.
- A random guest identifier and guest nickname, so you can play and rejoin rooms without an account.
- Answers in progress for a current game, so a refresh or brief connection loss doesn't lose your round.
- Recently used letters, so new rounds feel varied.
- A random session identifier used for the gameplay statistics described below.
- If you sign in, your sign-in session.
Gameplay and account data
When you play, we store the games you took part in, the answers you submitted, scores and results. For accounts we also store rating, rank, match history, Daily Challenge attempts and streaks, and leaderboard positions.
Your username, rank, rating and scores can be seen by other players on leaderboards, results pages and in the games you play together.
Gameplay statistics and error reports
To keep Jootl working and improve it, we record gameplay events (for example, a game starting or finishing) and error reports. These include a random session identifier, whether you are on a mobile or desktop device, and your browser's language and region setting.
We do not record your keystrokes, we do not store your IP address in these statistics, and error reports do not include your password, sign-in tokens or email address.
Feedback you send
If you use the Feedback button, we store your message, the type of feedback, the page you were on and your device type. If you are signed in it is linked to your account; otherwise it is linked to a random session identifier. Only Jootl administrators can read feedback.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time from your Profile page. Deleting your account:
- removes your profile, name and profile picture;
- removes your email address and Google link from the account and permanently disables sign-in;
- revokes any special roles on the account.
Past games after deletion
Past games you played are kept as anonymous records, no longer linked to you, so that other players' match history, results and rankings stay intact. This cannot be undone. You are free to register again later; a new account starts empty.
Security
We use reasonable measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections and access controls that limit who can read each kind of data. No online service can guarantee complete security.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Jootl changes. When we do, we will update the effective date on this page. Significant changes will be highlighted in the game.
Contact
Questions about this policy or your data, including Google user data, can be sent by email to contact@gamelabnotes.com or using the Feedback button available throughout Jootl.
